“Found in Excess” has a variety of meanings for this month’s artists at KMOCA. For Amy Coté, the work in this show is quite literally made from excess materials found in her studio, and excess ideas for drawings and paintings she’s been meaning to explore. Inspired by elements of theater such as costumery, props, and sets, she will be showing mixed-media sculptures, oil paintings, and works on paper. Originally from Boston, Amy received her MFA at New Paltz and is currently living in Highland.
For her trash series, Jenny Lee Fowler cut and reshaped litter to reflect the plants that grow in the places she found it. Her Invasive Species Quilt is a series of paper cuttings of botanical elements found in the Hudson Valley landscape that are out of control or under control programs. Jenny’s work has been featured in Martha Stewart Living, and Taproot Magazine. Originally from Oregon, she lives in Esopus.
Beth Humphrey has been thinking about how much is enough, for herself, her family, and the world. Inspired by rivers and water, she meditates on how excess water can mark the landscape. Beth will be showing paintings on paper and wood, both watercolors spray painted, and also collage. Originally from NYC, Beth lives in Saugerties, where she recently had a solo show at the public library. Beth also likes the fact that Saugerties in on the river.
In addition to their individual works, this month’s artists will also be showing a collaborative work made especially for this show.
